Deep River Family Medicine - About Us

About Deep River Family Medicine

DEEP RIVER FAMILY MEDICINE cares for patients of all ages. Our team includes experienced nursing staff and office assistants who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We offer a variety of services at our office for the complete medical care of the whole family including school, sports, work and annual physicals. We also provide DOT physicals and care of worker's comp injuries. For the convenience of our patients, we offer x-ray, audiometry (hearing test), electrocardiography (EKG), sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy and an onsite blood drawing station and laboratory.

OUR OBJECTIVE

As family physicians we believe the key to treatment is prevention of disease before it begins or before it gets serious. Therefore, we will devote time to the discussion of health maintenance, while explaining treatment plans and recommendations with you. We consider our patients to be an integral part of the treatment team, encouraging them to take responsibility for their ongoing health and well-being.

GENERAL OFFICE INFORMATION

Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Patients are seen by appointment, although emergencies will be seen immediately. Appointments are scheduled by calling the office at 802-2050. In order to avoid undue waiting, we ask your cooperation in scheduling check-ups and complete physicals as far ahead as possible.

We have a laboratory for the more frequently performed tests. X-rays may also be performed here in our office. We welcome you to our practice and encourage your questions. Many can be answered by our experienced office staff, but a Family Practitioner is always readily available for your personal consultation. We will be glad to recommend reading materials for a variety of health care issues upon request.

PRESCRIPTION REFILLS

Refill requests for chronic problems received after 4:30 p.m. will not be called in to the pharmacy until the next business day. Please call at least two days prior to running out of medication to give our staff time to call your pharmacy or to notify you if we have questions.

Medication refills received after 4:30 p.m. on Fridays or before a holiday will be called in at the triage nurse's discretion.

Patients on medication for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) need to notify our office at least one week in advance to give the physician time to refill the prescription since these drugs cannot be called in to a pharmacy.

Medication for any acute or urgent problem will be called in on the day of the request.

All medication is filled at each physician's discretion.

OFFICE HOURS AND EMERGENCY CALL

Monday-Friday
Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please call ahead to determine the appointment time that best fits your schedule. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 802-2050 (High Point) or 230-0253 (Greensboro). We encourage you to describe your medical problem when you call so that your appointment can be appropriately scheduled. Please be aware that certain appointments, such as complete physical examinations, will take longer than routine follow-up visits. If you have an urgent problem, and call for an appointment the same day, you will be "worked in" the schedule if no other appointments are available. We also urge you to be on time, and we will make every effort to see patients at their scheduled time. While there is no charge for a missed appointment, we ask you to cancel your appointment as far in advance as possible. This courtesy on your part makes it possible to give your scheduled appointment to another patient who needs to see that physician.

After 5:00 p.m. and Before 8:00 a.m. and Weekends

The on-call doctor can be reached through our nurse triage service at 1-800-446-2255. Our doctors share calls with Cornerstone Family Practice in Archdale.

We encourage you to use our nurse triage service before visiting the emergency department if possible. Some health insurances will not cover ER visits where prior authorization from our on-call physician has not been obtained.

If you have a major medical emergency or a life-threatening health problem, please go to the hospital Emergency Room.

We also have an Urgent Care located next to our office. This practice can handle many after hours urgent medical needs, such as flu, fever, aches, coughs, allergies, bruises, sprains, colds, earaches, sore throats, infections, cuts and other urgent problems, at a considerably lower expense and more efficiently than the Emergency Room. The Urgent Care is open from 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Family Practitioner seeing you in our office is board-certified by the American Board of Family Practice, has your medical records, and is familiar with pertinent aspects of your medical history. Coming to the office allows us to provide you with the most complete and consistent medical care possible.

NEW PATIENTS

As a new patient, you may request to see a specific doctor, or at the time of your visit, you will be assigned a provider. On subsequent visits, you and your family will generally be seen by that same doctor. If, however, he is unavailable at that time, one of the other health care providers in our group will take care of your immediate concerns until your personal physician returns. Our physicians request that all new patients schedule a complete physical so that we may establish a baseline record of their health. These records allow our physicians to treat new patients most effectively when illness occurs.

FEES AND INSURANCE

At the completion of your visit you will be given an itemized bill showing the fees for the day, as well as any prior balance. The cost of your visit is determined by the time we spend with you, the complexity of your condition, and by the lab tests necessary to properly diagnose and care for you. In an effort to keep our fees at a just and reasonable level, we request payment of the portion of the bill that is not covered by your health insurance at this time.

Your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance carrier. It is the responsibility of you and your insurance company to pay your medical bills. As a courtesy to our patients, we will file claims to your insurance company, and provide them information to determine benefits. Your insurance deductible must be met and paid for at the beginning of each year before your insurance coverage will come into effect.

Our office is a participating provider with most major health insurance plans. Our office staff will be able to tell you if your plan is on the list of plans accepted by our practice. If your primary insurance is Medicare, please be aware that some secondary insurance policies do not cover your deductible. We suggest that you review your insurance policies carefully to determine what benefits are covered.

We Value Our Patients

We truly enjoy what we do and take pride in being family physicians. We want to give every patient the finest medical care possible. If you have any questions or suggestions about our practice or our care, we sincerely welcome those thoughts and encourage you to share them with us.
