Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. All patients are seen by appointment only.
There is always a doctor available when the office is closed. After hours, our answering service will
direct your call to a TRIAGE NURSE. The triage nurse is an integral part of our practice. They have all
the physician's protocols for treating problems after office hours. The triage nurse will give you
directions for further treatment if your symptoms or illness require immediate medical assistance. All
encounters with the Nurse Triage Service are reviewed by your doctor.
We ask that routine questions or problems be addressed by calling the office between 8:00 a.m. and
5:00 p.m. the next day.
Our Physicians believe that accurate diagnosis and treatment
requires a physical examination and appropriate diagnostic testing. Therefore, it is not our policy
to diagnose or treat medical conditions over the phone, including what you may feel is "routine".
No prescriptions for pain medications, nerve pills, or routine medications will be called in after hours.
All of the physicians at Cornerstone Medical Associates believe
that prevention of diseases is the key to good health. Therefore the physician will suggest annual exams and
blood tests to aid them with your health maintenance. Every effort will be made to explain all
the prescribed treatment plans while encouraging the patient to take responsibility for his/her own
health care.
Cornerstone Medical Associates is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday, by appointment only. It is important when you call to schedule your appointment that you
let us know the nature and urgency of the problem. If you feel the problem is urgent, we ask that
you call the office before coming in. We always have spots open in our schedule for patients that need an
appointment immediately.
If you feel you have a major medical emergency that requires immediate attention, call 911 -- then have
someone notify the physician on call of your emergency. Our phones are covered 24 hours a day, either by office
staff or the triage nursing service. We encourage you to use our triage service after hours before going
straight to the emergency room. These nurses are trained to handle all sorts of medical problems. Again, if
you feel you have a true medical emergency, call 911 for help.
As a courtesy to our other patients, we ask that you call us if you will be late or unable to keep your appointment.
If you must cancel, we request at least 24 hours notice so that we may give your appointment to another
patient. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR MEDICATIONS WITH YOU TO EVERY APPOINTMENT!
We request that all new patients schedule a complete physical as soon
as possible so that we may establish a baseline record of your health. This gives us a chance to get to
know you personally and allows us to evaluate or discover any problems or concerns with which you may
or may not be aware, or have addressed in the past with other physicians. Most of our physicians are open
to see new patients. Whichever doctor you see at your first appointment will be your primary doctor. Every effort
will be made for you to see your primary doctor for future appointments. If for any reason your doctor is
not available to see you during an acute visit, another physician or nurse practitioner will see you. All new
patients should arrive 15 minutes early for their appointment to fill out necessary paperwork and input it
into the computer.
For your convenience, Cornerstone Medical Associates has an in-office lab
and phlebotomy station (drawing of blood). This means you can have your blood drawn at the same time
as your physician appointment. We are also equipped to do routine urinalysis and finger stick blood sugars.
In addition to laboratory services, we offer exercise treadmills, minor skin surgeries, sigmoidoscopy,
pulmonary function testing and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
If you require hospitalization, you will be admitted to High Point
Regional Hospital. Your primary doctor will see you or make arrangements for one of his/her partners
to see you if they are not available.
Our office is a participating provider for most insurance plans. Please
be sure to bring your insurance card with you for each visit. Your "copay" and portion of the bill not
covered by your health insurance are expected to be paid at the time of service.
Your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance company. It is your responsibility to
make sure your bills are paid in a timely manner. As a courtesy, we will file your insurance claims to the
insurance company. Please review your policy prior to your visit so that you are familiar with what services
are covered by your insurance.
When you have a question about your bill, please call the office. We will do everything we can
to help you understand the billing process. If we are unable to help we will refer you to Cornerstone
Financial Services (CFS). Their telephone number is 802-2000. Explain your problem, and the right team
member will be able to assist you with your question or concern. Cornerstone Medical Associates and
Cornerstone Financial Services work very closely to make sure we are providing excellent financial
services to our patients.
A fee schedule will be provided on request.
